Welcome to the official web site for Bethany, West Virginia

The first known recorded settlement in Bethany was that of Isaac Williams in 1769 who built a cabin on the bank of the Buffalo Creek, the
camping grounds of the Mingo and Shawnee. The Town of Bethany was given its name by Alexander Campbell in 1827 so that a post office could exist. In large measure the post office was established because of the large volume of mail Campbell sent and received. Campbell was also Bethany's first postmaster.
